Devanagari Script

Devanagari (Nepali Script)

Nepali language is written in the Devanagari script, which is also used to write Hindi, which evolved from the Brahmi script and is written from left to right. It has no capital letters, with each character having its own line. Words are grouped by a horizontal line, and a vertical right stroke marks the end of a sentence. Nepali is pronounced exactly as it is written, with each letter having a distinct sound. Nepali also uses its own numeral system. In some regions, Tibetan script is used, and the Newar people have their own script for writing Nepal Bhasa.

Ranjana Lipi Script

Ranjana Lipi (Newari Script)

The Ranjana script is a type of writing system that started in the 11th century. It was used by the Newar people in the Kathmandu Valley and areas from Nepal to Tibet to write Sanskrit and Nepal Bhasa (Newar). The script is written from left to right and is traditionally written with a calligraphy pen, where the thickness of the strokes is important. Ranjana is an abugida, meaning each consonant has a built-in vowel sound [a], unless changed by special marks. It was widely used until the mid-20th century.
